Home Business Registration process begins June 7, 2010
The Board of Trustees recently approved a Home Business and Home Occupation Zoning Ordinance Amendment
which became effective April 26, 2010. The ordinance is in response to new state mandates as well as to create standards for home businesses and home occupations within Bath Township. The Township’s goal is to bring businesses currently in violation of the ordinance, into a non-conforming use status and establish guidelines for any new home business that is established in the Township to protect the residential character for its residents.
Under the Zoning Ordinance Amendments, both existing and new home businesses are required to register. At the Bath Charter Township office, there is a Home Occupation/ Home Business Determination worksheet that can help establish whether a homeowner is a home business or home occupation. If it is determined that a homeowner is a home occupation, registration is not necessary. All necessary forms and applications can be found below as well as the Township office.
The registration process begins June 7, 2010 and will expire June 7, 2011 for existing home businesses. The one year registration process is free for existing businesses that were established before April 26, 2010. After the one year registration process ends for existing home businesses, home businesses that did not register will be treated as a new home business and be subject to the Special Use Permit process and fees.
Below are the necessary forms for the Home Business registration process. It is recommended that everyone reads the explanation of the home business ordinance language, then the home occupation/ home business determination worksheet and then based on when an individual became a home business, determine if they are required to fill out an existing home business registration form or a new home business registration form.
