Tips while you are away from home:

  •  Keep your lights on a timer.
  •  Let neighbors you trust know when you will be away so they notice strange vehicles in your drive.
  •  Keep a radio on to make it sound like someone is home.
  •  Have your mail and newspaper held or have someone get them.  Don’t let them pile up.
  • If you are gone for an extended time, make arrangements to have your lawn mowed.
  •  Of course double check all doors and windows to make sure they are locked.  Put a bar in the track of a slider door.
  •  If you normally have a key under a doormat or flower pot, remove it at this time.  Leave with a trusted neighbor if you are worried for emergency access.
  •  Lower your telephone ringer so it can’t be heard ringing for an extended period of time.  Lower the amount of rings to go to the message recorder if you have one.

  • Bath Police has household inventory forms available.   These forms are for keeping serial numbers/model numbers on common items that get stolen.  TVs, laptops, guns all need to have serial numbers written down so the police can try to recover them.   The inventory forms can be very useful in the unfortunate event of a breaking and entering.
  •  Bath Police also has an engraver that we loan out for one week at a time.  Many people like to put their last name or driver's license number on certain items.
  •  We have FREE GUN LOCKS at the department.  (limit of two)

Bike and Pedestrian Safety:    When walking on the road, remember walk AGAINST traffic.  State Law states if there is a sidewalk available, you MUST walk on that.  If you are riding a bike, you should bike WITH the flow of traffic.
